2009 - Dori Berinstein

Dori is a three-time Tony-winning Broadway producer and an award-winning producer, director and writer of film and television.

Her Broadway productions include: "Legally Blonde: The Musical", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (Tony Award), "The Crucible", "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" (Tony Award), "Enchanted April", "Fool Moon" (Tony Award), "Flower Drum Song", "Big" and "Golden Child". Off-Broadway, she produced "Blown Sideways Through Life".

"ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway", Dori’s first feature documentary as director/producer, released theatrically in ’07 and now on Showtime, brought Dori’s two great loves together – theatre and film. "ShowBusiness" captures the passion, exhilaration, drama, sweat and high-stakes creative and financial risk of four new Broadway musicals – "Wicked", "Avenue Q", "Taboo" and "Caroline, or Change" - from inception through the Tony Awards. The film was an IDA Best Documentary Finalist in 2007 and won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at The Florida Film Festival. "ShowBusiness" is dedicated to the tremendous work of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.

"Gotta Dance" (Tribeca Film Festival ’08), Dori’s third feature documentary, about the New Jersey Net’s, first-ever, senior citizen hip-hop dance team, will be released theatrically in May 2009. At the same time, Royal Caribbean International Cruise Line will be launching a comprehensive "Gotta Dance" program across it’s fleet of ships. The film won Best Documentary at the 2008 Floating Film Festival. Dori is adapting "Gotta Dance" into a Broadway Musical to be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell ("Legally Blonde", "Hairspray", etc..).

Dori’s second documentary feature, "Some Assembly Required" (SXSW ’08), chronicling kids nationwide competing in a national toy invention competition, will be released in the fall of 2009. Astronaut Dr. Sally Ride exec produces.

Dori documented the making of "Shrek: The Musical" for Dreamworks and directed and produced the mockumentary "Off The Record", about the "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" recording session.

She is co-founder of Camp Broadway, an immersive behind-the-scenes national theatre program aimed at giving kids a life-long love for the arts. She recently co-launched Thru The Stage Door, a new arts education company, dedicated to creating extraordinary theatre experiences and cutting edge arts learning tools.

Dori Executive-Produced and/or supervised over 50 feature, special f/x and/or animated productions including Isaac Mizrahi’s award-winning documentary "Unzipped", "Dirty Dancing" and Jim Henson’s "MuppetVision 3-D". 

Dori is a proud CTI alum and a member of the Broadway League’s Education, Marketing and Kid’s Night on Broadway committees. Dori attended Smith College, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and The Yale School of Drama.
